Migrant Children in Shanghai

by David Pat

Shanghai's rapid development has been fueled in recent years by the steady influx of cheap labor from the countryside. This trend has created a huge situation where millions of children from the countryside find themselves in a city where rights, opportunities and chances for education are few.

Since these migrant children aren't residents of Shanghai they are forced to go to special migrant schools where the staff is often poorly trained and the conditions are less than favorable.

Please pray for the hundreds of thousands of migrant kids who are currently suffering from this situation.

From Suicide to Salvation

Grace. We usually think of it as the Father's loving unmerited kindness towards us. I think of a girl who was orphaned at birth and whose hands and feet are clawed so that she only has 3 fingers on each hand. Grace grew up in Gao Yao in a government run orphanage who only took care of her as a job. She was told that she was never good enough and was brought up being compared to other children who didn't have a disability and had both parents. Grace felt worthless her entire life and often contemplated suicide.

We worked with Grace when she first entered the orphanage run by Terry (our contact in Gao Yao). She was really shy and seemed to feel awkward being at the orphanage. I remember the first day when we sang the song "Amazing Grace".

Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
and grace my fears relieved
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed.

The Father used our orphanage to bring the Good News to Grace and today she has been a believer for 2 years. I got to see her this week and had the wonderful opportunity to talk with her. She is now working as a designer for a local Believer owned factory. She has personally designed her own shopping bag and the other girls are proud to show off her work. My most memorable moment meeting up with her, was watching her hug Terry and call him daddy. For the first time, Grace has a family. Today, her brothers and sisters are made up of the communion of Saints worldwide and we testify together with her, it was grace that hath brought us here thus far and grace will lead me home.

Wife Beater Gets Saved

by David Pat

Earlier this year I visited a man in the hospital with the house church shepherd. His wife is a member of the house fellowship and her husband was an adulterer that beat her. I said that it was probably the Father's will that we visited when we did.

Fast forward a few months later. We had a Christmas outreach this year and after the program we gave an invitation for everyone to respond to the Gospel's call. Many people stood up and accepted Christ but one person in particular walked to the front. It was the man I talked to a few months ago. Afterward the woman came to thank me because her husband had just accepted Jesus to be his Lord and Savior. I'm not naive to think that all the problems are now gone, but I think this finally begins the healing process for their family.

What's going to happen to their family? I don't know. But, for the first time, the Lord is the head of their house and he is faithful to finish the good work that he started (Phil. 1:6).

This picture was from the Christmas outreach, those standing in the front accepted Christ.
