the low-down on KAC Media:
the vision:
Redefining Culture Through Faith and Media
who are they?
Korean American Christian Media is a nonprofit 501c3 organization that is dedicated to spreading the message of God’s love and grace through online and television media. They aim to produce creative and thought-provoking content that genuinely serves the needs of Korean Americans today. While highlighting churches, organizations, businesses, and individuals in the Korean community, KAC Media provides an internship and volunteer program, services, and jobs to empower and develop emerging young artists in the arts, film, and media.
It is their hope that with every story and with every effort, they bring people one step closer to God.

At INHERITANCE, you could say we share a certain affinity with Korean American Christian Media.
We both roughly started at the same time. And while we reach out through print and they cover media and music, we both share the same purpose and goals. It’s nice to know you’re not alone.
Yealee Song, KAC Media’s director of production, tells us how they’re sharing the gospel through the Internet and TV.
What drew you to KAC Media?
Actually, the last place I thought I’d be working for was a Korean American Christian media company. I worked at a mainstream news station for nine years, and I was always looking to get back into some sort of mainstream media. Also, I was the last person that was interested in working with the Korean American community.
But when I came to KAC Media and talked to the people, what appealed to me was just the potential that this small little company had. I felt that there was freshness, potential and hope — all these things that were missing in bigger, well-established companies.
The people at KAC Media are passionate and very creative. They’re very family-like and I love the fact that I can openly express my faith by praying with them and attending weekly chapel on Fridays.
Working at KAC Media combines the two things I love most — production and God’s kingdom.
Media is primarily secular-content media — what’s the future for Christian media?
I feel like Christian media will become more predominant and get more airtime. God’s raising up a new generation of writers, actors, directors, and producers, a new generation of creative people who will not compromise the truth with bad storytelling, poor quality, or lack of imagination.
When you think of Christian media now, some think that it’s too cheesy and pushy. The stuff that will be produced in the future is going to rival what Hollywood is producing.
It will be very profound, compelling, imaginative, and well-told, without necessarily being overtly Christian. And there will be a growing demand for more of it.
Even though we’re Korean American Christian Media, I think the stuff that we’d like to do appeals to everyone. Period.
So, what are some upcoming projects on KAC Media’s horizon?
I know that right now, we’ve done a lot of event coverage’s within the Korean American Christian community, whether it’s a concert, rally, conference, or revival service. We’ve also had different talk shows and mini-documentaries — we’ve always had those programs.
But I think what we want to eventually do is to break out into the realm of short films. We want to do more creative things — we’re producing our first music video for a Christian artist from one of our talent contests. I think that’s going to be very well received when it’s finished, and it’ll open the doors for us to collaborate on more creative projects with all different kinds of people.
So we’ll start branching out into more things like short films, longer film documentaries, music videos, and maybe even live events.
How have people been responding to KAC Media and what its been doing?
You know what, I think we’ve had so much favor. We’ve only been around for a little over a year, we’re reaching such a niche audience, and we’re so young and relatively inexperienced. Many of us are still learning and trying things.
But really, I feel like the community has reached out and embraced us. Churches, organizations, pastors, and ministry leaders have contacted us, asking us if we can come out to cover their event — it means the world to us!
It shows that they recognize us as a media presence and that we are able to serve as an outlet for them.
God has just shown so much favor on our organization and we’ve seen so much love and support from everyone.
With all this support — it shows that people need something and you’re filling it. What would you say is the biggest need that KAC addresses?
I feel the biggest gap that we fill is a platform for Asian Americans who otherwise wouldn’t have a platform. To this day, it’s hard to find Asian Americans being represented on TV. It’s gotten much better but you’re still hard pressed to find mainstream TV shows that get in depth when they feature Asian Americans.
And what we do is make Asian Americans relevant. We give them a pivotal voice, an opportunity for them to express their creativity, faith, purpose, work, passion — that’s the gap that we’re filling. We’re giving Asian Americans a voice and a platform. They deserve airtime, support and encouragement.
KAC has a lot of volunteers, and that’s a testament in itself. Why do you think so many people feel the desire to help out with KAC?
I think they just believe in the mission. I mean, these are volunteers, who contribute time, talent, energy, and what do they get in return? They don’t get the money or perks that a lot of big companies can give them, but I think they all feel like they’re doing something for the good of the world at large, for the community.
They feel like they’re doing something for God, and I think that’s the main motivating factor. They’re serving in some way — what’s the difference between volunteering at a Christian media company and leading a Bible study?
You’re still serving the Lord. You’re still giving your time and talents; it’s just a different outlet. So I think those that come to volunteer at KAC Media come with a mindset willing to contribute and to serve the Lord.
